28th Of July 2008The hotel part of the cricketers was fine apart from the fact that it is located 50 yards away from the pub restaurant and very difficult to contact the reception when there were problems. They forgot to switch the boiler on so we had to walk to the reception to ask them to switch the hot water on. When we first arrived there was only one towel in the room so it does seem the hotel side was resting on its laurels.The restaurant food was pretty old fashioned and they should get .Jamie Oliver to come and give dad some tips...piquant red cabbage and carrots with cauliflower...hardly cutting edge stuff!...The free house part of the pub had completely run out of real ale so it had to be lager all round. They had two riojas on the wine list and ran out of the cheaper one .. it would have been nice to have been offered the slightly more expensive one at no extra cost. As they didn't offer an upgrade for our chosen wine we made do with a slightly cheaper argentinian red, which was actually like a supermarket plonk. Shame they didn't go that extra mile..the location, facilities and building were excellent. ...As was the breakfast. Perhaps we will just do the Bed and Breakfast deal next time. |
